The Conference of Sport Ministers of the Federal States , or Sport Ministers Conference (SMK) for short, is one of the specialist conferences of the German federal states and has been held annually since it was founded in 1977. Its purpose is to coordinate the promotion of sports in 16 countries and maintains beyond the interests of all states in the field of sport at both national and international levels.

Conference of Sport Ministers

The SMK contributes to the joint formation of opinion and will of the federal states and accompanies sports matters of supraregional importance. She represents the common concerns in particular in the coordination of sport funding in the countries and the protection of interests in the field of sport at national and international level.

The Conference of Sports Ministers works with the German Olympic Sports Confederation , the Federal Ministry of the Interior , the Conference of Ministers of Education , the Federal Council , the central municipal associations , the state sports associations and, if necessary, with external experts.

Sports speakers conference

The Conference of Sports Speakers (SRK) and its standing committees for competitive sports and sports facilities are facilities of the Conference of Sports Ministers and take place annually in four events. The SRK has the task of preparing and implementing the resolutions of the SMK as well as ensuring mutual information and the exchange of experience between the administrations of the federal states.

Current country of presidency

The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen took over the chairmanship of the Conference of Sports Ministers at the beginning of 2019 and will manage the business until the end of 2020. The chairman of the conference of sports ministers is Anja Stahmann , Senator for Social Affairs, Youth, Women, Integration and Sport in the Bovenschulte Senate .
