On the southern edge of Barsinghausen, the Fuchsbach is the namesake for a valley in the Deister . The sports school of the Lower Saxony Football Association was opened here on April 28, 1951. The building, which was built for 1.2 million marks (the equivalent of around 3,130,000 euros today) offered space for a total of 172 people and was unusually comfortably furnished for that time. In addition to hotel rooms for course participants and dormitories for young people, accommodation was also provided for injured athletes and those in need of relaxation. The German national football team came to the sports school for the first time in July of that year . After several extensions and renovations, the building is now operated as the Sporthotel Fuchsbachtal .

By 1954, a second building with accommodation and seminar rooms, a swimming pool and a sports hall later named after Karl Laue was added to the facility. This building and the building in the northeast of the complex that went into operation in 1961 form the core of the sports school today.

In the early 1970s, the site was redesigned, replacing the swimming pool with three soccer fields. The cramped location in a valley floor makes admitting or keeping out of viewers difficult. The August-Wenzel-Stadion in the northeast of Barsinghausen is occasionally used for training.

Sports school

The NFV sports school employs 16 people. In the sports school there are mainly courses for players, coaches, trainers, supervisors, club employees, students and referees. The rooms that are not needed for this are also rented to sports clubs and other groups.

Accommodations

Spread across two buildings, there are 107 beds in 12 three-bed, 33 double and 6 single rooms. There were a total of 18,507 overnight stays in the sports school in 2018.

Sports facilities

The sports school includes a grass field of 105 × 70 m, an artificial turf field of 100 × 65 m, a goalie training field of 45 × 50 m, a sports hall of 50 × 25 m, an outdoor soccer court, a tennis court, a 10 × 8 m swimming pool, a bowling alley and rooms for physiotherapy.

The performance center of the Lower Saxony Football Association, built in 1983 ( August Wenzel Stadium since 1996 ), offers four more grass pitches measuring 105 × 70 m, two of which are floodlit, one with a running track and a grandstand for 2500 spectators.

Conference venue

The sports school has ten conference and seminar rooms for 8 to 60 people as well as a cafeteria and other function rooms.

Others

The Barsinghausen sports school and, in later years, the Fuchsbachtal sports hotel were often used by German and foreign national soccer teams for training camps and as accommodation before international matches. During the 2006 soccer world championship , the Sporthotel Fuchsbachtal was the home of the Polish national team .
