Spotlight has been a language magazine for English learners that has been published since November 1981. It is aimed primarily at native German speakers who want to improve and practice their English. The magazine and its by-products are published by Spotlight Verlag . Until 1995 the magazine was called Anglo-American Spotlight . The editorial team of “Spotlight” is led by the British journalist Inez Sharp. The American Claudine Weber-Hof is the deputy editor-in-chief. Both British and American English are trained in “Spotlight”.

The 80-page magazine covers current topics from the English-speaking world, such as politics, culture and travel. In addition, exercises for English learners are printed, explanations of difficult words and trading cards for vocabulary, idioms, etc. All articles are in English. A translation aid for difficult or unusual vocabulary is included to make it easier to understand the text. The structure of the articles is based on language psychology in order to promote the learning of the foreign language.
