Languages in Åland
The Åland Islands, an autonomous region, are the part of Finland where the Swedish-speaking Finland-Swedes make up the largest proportion of the population. Around 25,000 people, that is 90% of the population, speak Swedish as their mother tongue. The Åland language spoken in Åland is a dialect of Imperial Swedish; it has some peculiarities compared to the standard Swedish language . Swedish is the only official language in Åland. Finnish is the mother tongue of around 5% of the population.
