spusu ("speak and surf") is a virtual mobile operator in the network of "3" . spusu is a brand of the Mass Response Service. In Lower Austria and Burgenland, a 5G network is served with its own frequencies. According to its own information, the mobile operator had over 100,000 customers under contract in 2017 and around 300,000 customers at the beginning of 2020. The standard network code is 0670.

Awards

In the survey carried out by the Society for Consumer Studies (ÖGVS) in 2016, in which a total of 23 mobile phone providers were tested, spusu achieved 1st place in the “Conditions” category. In the overall ranking, the at that time still young provider took third place.

In 2017, spusu was awarded the test winner by the Society for Consumption Studies (ÖGVS). Of the 21 mobile network providers tested, spusu took first place in each of the categories of conditions and customer service and thus achieved overall victory.

EU roaming

Since June 15, 2017, network operators from the EU and the EEA have been obliged not to charge their customers any more roaming surcharges within a fair use limit. The EU roaming regulation , however, provides for the possibility of exceptions for mobile network providers if the EU roaming requirements lead to negative profit margins that threaten the existence of the company and thus jeopardize the sustainability of the domestic fee model. The Austrian state broadcasting and telecom Regulierungs-GmbH approved spusu such an exception for one year in October 2017 and granted it again for another year in October 2018. Despite the exemption from the obligation to enable customers to roam free of charge, the mobile operator granted its customers free roaming calls and SMS within the EU / EEA as well as limited data roaming (between 500 and 1,000 megabytes per month, depending on the tariff). Regardless of this, since April 1, 2019, the data roaming defined by the EU has been granted in full for all current spusu tariffs. In addition to old tariffs, the only exceptions are data tariffs that are generally offered without roaming.

Sponsorship

Spusu has been the main and name sponsor of the Handball League Austria since 2017 and the main sponsor of SKN St. Pölten and Vienna Capitals since 2018 .

Advertising & testimonials

In September 2018, spusu announced that the former Austrian soccer player Hans Krankl will act as a testimonial for the mobile operator and will be featured on the brand's online, TV and print advertising in the future. He replaces the active soccer coach Dietmar Kühbauer as the brand's previous advertising face.
