The Hutchison Three Austria GmbH (formerly Hutchison 3G Austria GmbH ) is an Austrian telecommunications company based in Vienna . It is a subsidiary of CK Hutchison Holdings .
history
Hutchison Drei Austria started with the brand 3 as the only pure UMTS provider in Austria and has since offered all of its services under this name.
After the takeover of Orange Austria (formerly ONE) in 2013, Drei made a new one out of two networks. The merging of the two networks took place in several steps. As a first step, Drei has been offering improved HSDPA coverage for all customers since summer 2013 through national roaming. The second step, the merging of the two former 3G networks, was completed in mid-February 2014. The area code of three is still 0660 today.
In 2014, Drei further expanded and consolidated its network. With 50 percent more locations, Drei is building a nationwide network that offers 2G (GSM / GPRS), 3G (UMTS / HSPA) and 4G (LTE) nationwide with 98 percent population coverage. On March 3, 2015, Drei reached 70 percent of the local population with mobile broadband via LTE. Drei wants to expand its LTE network across the board by summer 2015.
After the merger of Hutchison Whampoa , Hutchison Drei Austria GmbH has been a 100% subsidiary of CK Hutchison Holdings in Hong Kong since June 2015 .
The mobile communications discounter Eety was completely taken over in 2015.
In the 2016 financial year, as of December 31 , Hutchison Drei Austria had over 3.8 million customers and, according to its own information, had the LTE network with the widest range in Austria.
In July 2017 it was announced that Hutchison Drei Austria was taking over its competitor Tele2 Austria . With the takeover, Drei became an alternative telecommunications provider in Austria, offering fixed and mobile networks with their own infrastructure. Drei intends to use this to further expand its Internet offering and to increase its focus on business customers and IT solutions. The acquisition was completed on October 31, 2017.
Economic result
In the first half of 2017, Drei increased its operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) by 4 percent from EUR 163 million in the previous year to EUR 171 million. The operating result (EBIT) increased by 5 percent from 116 to 122 million euros. By eliminating inactive prepaid customers, the company had around 3.7 million customers as of June 30, 2017 (excluding M2M and MVNO customers). Adjusted, the number of active customers remained constant. Drei was able to increase the share of its valuable contract customers by 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of employees rose slightly to 1,328.
offer
In addition to voice telephony in HD quality, the company focuses on mobile broadband Internet and numerous multimedia offers such as 3MobileTV. Drei has been offering mobile television since 2004. With the further development of smartphones, Drei has continuously expanded its MobileTV offering and currently offers more than 100 TV and radio channels that transmit content up to DVD quality with 720 × 404 pixels.

Drei does not charge any data traffic for 3MobileTV or for the on-demand content and does not set a usage limit .
