The Orange Austria Telecommunication GmbH , formerly ONE GmbH and before that Connect Austria , was the third largest mobile operator in Austria, in whose network more than 2.1 million customers on the telephone. On September 22, 2008, ONE became Orange . Orange had been a brand of Hutchison Drei Austria since July 1, 2013, and the brand was completely removed from Austria on August 18, 2013.

technology

ONE started on October 26, 1998 as the first mobile communications company in the DCS 1800 frequency range . For the application, the paper from the newspaper Der Standard - on this national holiday in the self-selling bags on the street - was colored light blue instead of pink. In 2004 the company acquired additional frequencies in the 900 MHz band, which were used together with EDGE .

In addition to mobile voice telephony and short messages, Orange Austria recently offered the following services:

  • GSM
  • GPRS
  • EDGE - in GSM 900 cells (as of February 2010: 400 transmitters equipped, 400–500 more to follow)
  • HSCSD
  • UMTS
  • HSDPA / HSUPA
  • HSPA +
  • Fixed line and Internet connections for major customers
  • Fixed line, internet and mobile telephony under the brand of the subsidiary YESSS!

care

According to the company, the network coverage was 98.6% ( GSM Population Coverage) and around 70% for UMTS .

Since August 2009, Wiener Neustadt has been Orange's Austrian test location for new technologies that enable better quality, faster data transfers and new offers. In the test of the most renowned German-language telecom magazine Connect, the Orange network received an overall rating of “very good” (Connect Test 12/09).

In mid-March 2010, Orange in Wiener Neustadt, together with Ericsson, was the first mobile operator in Austria and one of the first in Europe to implement 42 Mbit / s in its HSPA network.

All of Orange's former customers have been using the Hutchison Drei Austria mobile network since mid-2013.

Resellers and brands

YESSS! was a 100% subsidiary of Orange. With the sale of Orange to Hutchison Drei Austria, YESSS! sold to A1 Telekom Austria. Orange also held a 25.1% stake in eety -Telecommunications GmbH.

Phone number

The area code of Orange Austria itself was 0699 , unless a number with the area code of another provider was taken via number porting .

Subscriber numbers at Orange Austria followed the number structure 0699-x- abcdefg . Orange Austria internally assigned x with 1 (line 1), 2 (line 2), 3 ( Voicebox ), 4 ( fax ) and 5 (data), all of which were assigned to the connection abcdefg . 8 was used for virtual network operators ( Yesss! (069981) and Tele2 (069988)) - the virtual operators had their own area codes, but existing numbers remained valid. Thus, telephone numbers after 0699 always consisted of 8 digits, even with virtual network operators, which was previously unusual for other Austrian mobile phone networks.

Telephony tariffs

After ONE tariffs such as 4zu0 or the small and large chatterbox, Orange started in September 2008 with the “Hallo Europa” tariffs, which for the first time included international calls in domestic calls in Austria. This was followed by other tariffs such as “half basic fee” and “half, half”. In February 2010 Orange launched the “Team 2010” tariffs and at the same time launched the “Orange helps” initiative, in which free minutes that were not used by the end of the accounting period were donated to charitable projects.

Mobile broadband

With the HUI tariffs, the company (as ONE) offered mobile broadband access at fixed network prices for the first time in Austria in spring 2007. At the end of 2009, 44 percent of Austrian broadband connections were mobile. 7 out of 10 new registrations were for the mobile Internet. In addition to the mobile internet 3 GB and mobile internet 15 GB tariffs, Orange also offered the mobile internet prepaid card in this area. At the end of 2009, Orange had around 250,000 mobile broadband customers. In addition to mobile data sticks, Orange also offered mini-netbook and netbook combination packages in this area.
