Telekommunikation GmbH and before that eWave Telekommunikation GmbH , is a former discount mobile phone provider on the Austrian mobile phone market and today's mobile phone brand of A1 Telekom Austria . Since the sale of Orange Austria in January 2013, it has been owned by A1 Telekom Austria and was thereby merged with it. Since July 21, 2013, A1 Telekom Austria's mobile network has been used exclusively.

According to its own information, at the end of April 2006 the company was the fourth largest operator on the Austrian mobile communications market (in terms of customer numbers) and had more than 740,000 customers (as of 2010). At that time, the company employed 15 people and generated sales of 56.4 million euros.

history

eWave

EWave.at Telekommunikations AG was founded in Austria in 2000. In October 2001 the company was taken over by the mobile operator ONE. Until the takeover, the company was active in the business fields of fixed line telephony with around 20,000 customers, Internet connection via WLAN with around 300 customers, primarily in the Vienna area, and software development.

After the takeover by ONE, the establishment of a WLAN hotspot network under the brand eLounge began , which eventually had several hundred hotspots. At the same time, this network was also sold under the ONE WLAN brand. The network expansion was stopped at the end of 2004 and the operation of the remaining network was outsourced to Alcatel Austria AG in 2005. The discontinuation of the entire offer was announced on February 22, 2006.

In March 2005, ONE's fixed line customers were also taken over (formerly f-ONE). The total number of active fixed-line customers served increased to around 45,000. Fixed line telephony was offered under the YESSS! -Diskont-festnetze brand under the network code 1069.

YESSS!

On April 1, 2005, the eWave company was incorporated into YESSS! Telekommunikation GmbH and has also been active in mobile communications since then. The mobile communications product initially only offered voice telephony and SMS services via a prepaid tariff . In addition, was number portability allows.

Since April 16, 2009, customers have been able to surf the Internet with their mobile phones via GPRS .

Due to the lack of a device subsidy for some end devices , users were encouraged to “ unlock ” their cell phones from the start . As a result, the company caused displeasure among competitors, which ended in a lawsuit by T-Mobile Austria . This failed in the first instance and was not pursued any further.

After the parent company Orange Austria was sold to the mobile phone company Hutchison Drei Austria , the prepaid subsidiary Yesss! due to conditions imposed by the federal competition authority and passed into the possession of Telekom Austria for a purchase price of EUR 390 million , with Yesss! 2012 an annual turnover of only 50 million euros. The purchase price included the trademark rights to the former mobile communications brand “One”. Yesss! will be continued as a brand of A1 Telekom Austria AG.

Expansion of the tariff spectrum

In April 2006, roaming abroad was offered as a contract option. With this contract option, the customer was able to have the voice mailbox deactivated, as an activated “compulsory mailbox ” could result in high costs abroad.

In the price war with other mobile phone discounters, the tariffs were renewed again and again. Roaming was later also activated for prepaid customers.

Since September 2007, Yesss! under the name “discount surfing”, a broadband internet offer in the UMTS / HSDPA network of the parent company Orange. This is a prepaid tariff.

Since the beginning of April 2008 it has been possible to make calls with a data SIM card and to send and receive SMS. In this case, however, the fee for calls and SMS is more expensive than with the telephone prepaid card.

The company also offered inexpensive landline and internet calls. Both services were discontinued on July 31, 2013.

The phone numbers of the mobile phone offer start with 0699 81 or 0681.

The product was sold through the discount chain Hofer until the end of 2014 , and since 2015 at stores of the Rewe Group, MPreis , Libro and Pagro as well as on the Internet.
