Mpreis (proper spelling MPREIS) is an Austrian s food retail company with branches in the five federal states of Tyrol , Salzburg , Carinthia , Vorarlberg and Upper Austria as well as abroad in South Tyrol . The most important sales lines include the MPREIS supermarkets, Baguette and T&G.

History and corporate structure

The roots of the Tyrolean family company go back to 1920 ; Therese Mölk (1872–1958) laid the foundation stone. In 1974 the legal form changed to a Ges.mbH , the traditional grocery stores became modern supermarkets . The company is currently run in the fourth generation by three managing directors from the Mölk family. In 2015 a cooperation agreement for back office processes was signed with Markant Austria. The retail chain has been represented in Upper Austria since 2019. 2 branches (MPreis and T&G) were opened in Wels. According to media reports, more than 300 branches and a turnover of more than one billion euros are targeted for 2020.

architecture

In the 1980s MPREIS turned away from the previously predominant functional architecture for supermarkets and began to develop individual solutions for the individual locations in close cooperation with architects. In 2012, the first passive house supermarket in Central Europe was opened in Pinswang , and others soon followed. The buildings realized in cooperation with local and international architects have received numerous awards. In 2004 the company represented Austria at the Architecture Biennale in Venice.

Production companies and sales lines

In 2017 MPREIS operated 257 markets in Tyrol, South Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia and Vorarlberg as well as 172 baguette café-bistros; 27 T&G branches in Tyrol, Carinthia and Salzburg; 13 petrol station shops and 36 miniM shops in Tyrol as well as an online shop. Around 6,100 people from around 60 nations are employed.

The company has two production facilities: the Therese Mölk bakery and the Alpine butcher's shop. The company headquarters and logistics center with warehouse and its own vehicle fleet as well as the two production plants are located in Völs near Innsbruck.

  • Therese Mölk bakery: The bakery looks back on over 100 years of history. In 2011 the facilities were rebuilt and is currently the largest bakery in Tyrol.
  • Alpenmetzgerei: Meat processing has been one of the core areas for 25 years. In 2013, the Alpenmetzgerei, a new meat cutting and processing plant, went into production; the products include pork and beef as well as sausages and ham.
  • Baguette: The bread shops with a café bistro are connected to most markets.
  • I LIKE: Mpreis's "to go" convenience line went live in 2019 with its own large kitchen in Fiè
  • T&G: The T&G range includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as bulk packs from all product groups.
  • miniM: The shops ensure local supplies in small Tyrolean communities. A reduced range is available here for daily needs at the same prices and promotions as in the MPREIS supermarkets.
  • shopMPREIS: The shops are integrated in numerous petrol stations operated by the regional partner Gutmann. This allows extended opening times at the same prices as in the supermarket.
