The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation , shortly SLRC ( Sinhala : ශ්රී ලංකා රූපවාහිනී සංස්ථාව , Sri Lanka Rupavahini Saṃsthāva ; Tamil : இலங்கை ரூபவாகினி கூட்டுத்தாபனம் , Ilankai Rūpavākiṉi Kūṭṭuttāpaṉam ; Rupavahini literally means image carrier ) is the public broadcaster of Sri Lanka .
history
The SLRC was founded in 1982 after the then private Independent Television Network began in 1979 with television broadcasts in Sri Lanka.
In April 1999, Rupavahini 2 started as the second channel, which is now shared by Channel Eye (English, since August 2000) and Nethra TV (நேத்ரா; Tamil, since January 2008). Another English-language channel was added in November 2009, NTV .
