City coffee

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As cities coffee is called a fair-trade coffee , which bears the name of the city to market in a city; local ties and identification should be used to win new consumers for fair trade.

When implementing the “think globally, act locally” approach, as implemented in the Aschaffenburg partner coffee, the recently reformulated “bio-regional-fair” idea was already included: Fairly traded coffee (organically grown) is made by a regional coffee roastery roasted, packaged and sold in the region of the eponymous city. In addition, a humanitarian aid project is in a contained in the price donation twinned support in the country of cultivation of this coffee. The city coffee is thus a central element in city solidarity.

Most city cafes are independent projects that are organized by local one-world shops in cooperation with fair trade import organizations. In contrast, there are also regional projects in which several city coffees are initiated together, but each city has its own design for the coffee bags. The first regional project of this kind was “Der Pott kocht Fair”, in which 28 cities from the Ruhr area take part and which has achieved a total turnover of 40 tons in three years. Another regional project is the “Rhenish Affair”, in which eleven cities take part. Because of these two regional projects, among other things, North Rhine-Westphalia is the state with the most city cafes, a total of 64.

In addition to one-world shops, bakeries, bookstores, flower shops, department stores and supermarkets also act as sales outlets.

The pioneers of the city coffees were the 'Aschaffenburger Partnerkaffee' (sold over 307 tons since 1994), the 'Würzburger Partnerkaffee' (since 1998) and the 'Münster Kaffee' (since 1998).
