Artà municipal cemetery
The Artà municipal cemetery is the cemetery of the Spanish municipality of Artà in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean island of Mallorca .
location
The cemetery is located southeast of the city. To the west, the Ma-4041 road runs from Artà towards Son Servera . To the northeast is the former Artà-Manacor railway , which is now used as a cycle path.
Architecture and history
The cemetery was laid out in 1831. It is enclosed by a simply designed wall. The entrance gate is monumentally designed. Above the gate there are two angels bearing the Artà coat of arms. The cemetery paths are symmetrical and are partly lined with tall cypress trees. The middle path leads to the neo-Gothic cemetery chapel. As is customary in the region, burials take place in burial niches or mausoleums .
