Municipal Clinic Solingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Solingen Municipal Clinic is a hospital in the Gräfrath district of Solingen .

history

The first, modern hospital in Solingen was opened in 1863 on Nordstrasse (today's Potsdamer Strasse). In the beginning, it also served as a hospital in other cities in the upper district of Solingen (such as Gräfrath, Wald , Dorp and Höhscheid ).

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Mayor of Solingen at the time, August Dicke, campaigned for the construction of a new, shared hospital for the upper district of Solingen, as the capacities of the building on Nordstrasse were limited and he considered the project as a sign of a city association wanted to make understandable. In particular, the city of Ohligs , which already had its own hospital on Virchowstrasse, refused to participate in the project.

Finally the cities of Solingen, Gräfrath, Wald and Höhscheid agreed on the implementation of the project. The area chosen as the location was the little built-up area between Vogelsang and Herberg along the later developed Frankenstrasse in the city of Wald, a location that was centrally located in the middle of the four cities. The foundation stone for the building project was laid in April 1913. The new building opened in 1915, initially with 330 beds. With the town union in 1929, the municipal hospitals became the municipal hospital of the new city of Solingen.

In the 1960s and 1970s the house was extensively renovated and expanded. The new main building on Gotenstrasse was built in 1974. The area south of the hospital was built over with a large parking lot.

From the 1990s onwards, the buildings were again fundamentally renovated and extensions were added.
