The Stüssihofstatt is one of the oldest farmhouses in the Swiss canton of Uri and is a listed building. It was built in 1451. It is located in Unterschächen and is listed in the cantonal protection inventory.

description

The "Stüssihofstatt" house is one of the last late medieval buildings in the Schächtental, which has largely been preserved in its original state. It is a two-storey block building with a flat gable roof over a low broken stone base. The building corresponds to the Gotthard type with a cross passage and is accessible from both sides of the eaves .

A dendrochronological investigation showed that the Stüssihofstatt is from the threshold to the ridge beam as it was when it was built. It is extraordinary that a medieval construction has survived so completely and unchanged to this day. The house has a comparatively authentic appearance. Several components, such as the massive door posts and thresholds, individual projections or two ceiling planks flush with the facade, are of architectural historical interest. Wood researchers have also found that the two arbors were attached to the side of the house around 1660. The house only got its name "Stüssihofstatt" in the 19th century.

history

Between September 1450 and April 1451, according to dendrochronological studies, the spruce trees were felled from which the Stüssihofstatt was made. We know that in 1591 the Stüssihofstatt was the residence of Governor and Captain Walthart Zeffel. All wood was processed fresh, as was customary at the time.

Since 1955, the Stüssihofstatt has belonged to the Arnold family, who rented the house until 2010. After the last tenants had moved out, the Stüssihofstatt was supposed to be demolished, which the Urner Monument Preservation and the Stiftung Ferien im Baudenkmal in cooperation with the Arnold family were able to prevent. The renovation work was completed in June 2014.
