Stüssy is a clothing brand founded by Shawn Stussy in the early 1980s. The company is one of many that has benefited from the upturn in the “surfwear trend”. Today it is a popular brand in the hip hop and streetwear scene .

history

The brand's brand-defining logo was created in 1980 when Shawn Stussy began writing his last name on self-made surfboards . He subsequently used the logo on T-shirts, pants and caps that he sold in the Laguna Beach area .

In 1984, Stussy and his friend Frank Sinatra Jr. (unrelated to the singer) teamed up to sell the clothes. The company expanded to Europe in 1988 and later opened a boutique in SoHo , New York City and other successful locations throughout the 1990s. Sales reached 17 million in 1991 and 1992, 20 million US dollars . In 1992, the brand was sold in specialized boutiques across the United States and abroad, along with other expensive California lifestyle products. In 1996 Shawn Stussy resigned as president of the company and sold his stake in Sinatra. The company is still owned by the Sinatra family to this day. According to the company's website, the clothing is sold in Europe, Asia, the United States, Canada and Australia.
