Support elbow

Support elbow

The support elbow is a fitting for water drainage in the fire brigade . When using a BM jet pipe, it should direct the recoil force of the water through the hose line to the ground and thus enable two people instead of three to hold such a pipe.

construction

Support elbow with B-jet pipe

The support elbow consists of a housing with a handle and hand guard, a B-coupling at the water inlet and a rotatable B-lug part at the outlet. The housing has a toothing on the inner arch for better hold on wall edges and window sills and on the outer one an eyelet for attaching a line. The direction of flow is indicated by a cast arrow and the hand protection on the handle is also effective in the cold. Dimensions: length over handle 375 mm, height 215 mm, width (outside diameter B-coupling) 126 mm, weight max. 2 kg, curvature 50 °.

effect

About the effect of the support bend

The pressure of the water flowing forward tries to straighten the upwardly curved hose; however, the recoil pushes the end of the hose back, thus stabilizing the curvature of the hose. On the other hand, the recoil cannot move the end of the hose arbitrarily, since the backward movement is stopped by the stiffness of the water-filled hose. The force exerted by the recoil is then redirected into the ground through the curved hose. In this way, the support elbow not only reduces the recoil, the stabilization of the hose also means that it is self-supporting and the firefighters no longer have to carry their full weight.

Notes on usage

Support elbows should be used whenever possible for every B-pipe application. They are also suitable for laying hoses over sharp wall edges and window parapets and for pulling up hose lines. In practice, it is also used to set up a makeshift water cannon (the so-called water ring monitor ) using a distributor , a C-hose and a B-pipe . However, manufacturers point out that this is not intended use because the direction of flow is not taken into account and two fixed couplings are coupled together.

standardization

B-tube

According to DIN 14 368, the support elbow weighs 2 kg and is tested for strength at 25 bar and tightness at 16 bar.

C-tube

A support elbow-C has not yet been standardized.
