Multipurpose nozzle

C multi-purpose nozzle

Multipurpose nozzles are special fittings used by the fire brigade to deliver extinguishing agents (water or water / foam mixtures), which are used in addition to special nozzles , foam nozzles and hollow nozzles . They are available in sizes B, C and D , depending on the respective pressure hose to which they can be coupled.

While the forerunners, the round spray nozzles , only allowed the choice between full jet and "stop water", the multi-purpose nozzles with the additional spray jet function allow a further choice.

Multi-purpose nozzles are standardized in the versions BM, CM, CMM and DM. The first M in the name stands for multi-purpose jet pipe , the second for man protection shower which can protect fire fighters from direct exposure to flames. They belong to the group of water-bearing fittings for water delivery.

The further development is the hollow jet pipe .

The type of jet is determined by the direction in which the swirl body is introduced by the ball valve in the direction of flow of the water. The guide surfaces of the swirl body either act as a rectifier and thus lead to the full jet or - if the swirl body is rotated by 180 ° - as a swirl generator that enables the spray jet. If the swirl body is only rotated by 90 °, the swirl body blocks the water flow; the nozzle is on "stop water".

The amount of water that is dispensed can be changed using a screw-on mouthpiece, but the dispensing of water must be interrupted.

Due to the greater flexibility and the better spray pattern, in recent years, especially for fire fighting in buildings, hollow nozzles have increasingly been used in place of C multi-purpose nozzles.

Since there is such a strong recoil with B-jet pipes that they cannot be held on their own, they are usually used together with a support elbow , which transfers approx. 30% of the force to the ground via the pressure hose. With a support elbow, two firefighters are enough to hold the B-jet pipe. If there is no support bend or if the stand is unsafe, three firefighters have to hold the B-pipe.

In 2007 DIN 14365 was replaced by DIN EN 15182 Part 1–4. In DIN EN 15182-3, multi-purpose nozzles with full jet and / or a constant spray angle PN 16 are described, which correspond to the multi-purpose nozzles according to the old DIN.

history

In the early days , the jet pipes did not have their own shut-off device. The water delivery therefore had to be regulated via the pump or at the distributor . Strictly speaking, they weren't "multi-purpose nozzles", just "nozzles".

This form of the jet pipe is also called "DK jet pipe" or "mandrel". The “mandrel” as a jet pipe shape still finds its place on the hose of the bucket syringe .
