The AWG Fittings GmbH (formerly Max Widemann KG), headquartered in ball village in Baden-Württemberg is a manufacturer of fire fighting equipments . The company is a subsidiary of the US-American IDEX Corporation and sells its products under the brands AWG, LANCIER and Alco. Today AWG has customers in more than 79 countries, the export share is over 50 percent.

history

The beginnings of the company go back to 1904, when master locksmith Johannes Hornung founded his own business in Giengen an der Brenz . In 1926, the brass foundry Wilhelm Widenmann joined this company. It is then renamed HOWIG - Armaturenfabrik Hornung & Widenmann.

Wilhelm Widenmann had previously worked in his father's (Karl Widenmann) metal foundry, which still exists in Heidenheim today . The fire extinguishing equipment manufacturer Ziegler , also based in Giengen, was the first major buyer of the fire extinguishing fittings produced by Hornung & Widenmann.

In 1939 Wilhelm's brother Max Widenmann took over the company, renaming it "Armaturenfabrik Max Widenmann '" and creating the AWG (Armaturen Widenmann Giengen) company logo.

The outbreak of the Second World War brought with it a great demand for fire extinguishing fittings. Due to the scarcity of raw materials, fittings were also cast from light metal instead of brass for the first time . The knowledge gained from this helped AWG to develop new fittings after the end of the war. With this and through its own research in the field of flow resistance, the company became the market leader in Europe. By participating in the standards committee, AWG had a decisive influence on the standardization of fire extinguishing fittings. Even today, AWG is active in the standards committee.

The product range of AWG Fittings GmbH includes couplings in all international standards as well as fittings, spray pipes and devices for the water supply during extinguishing as well as various extinguishing devices , pumps, foam admixing systems and other products for extinguishing technology and preventive fire protection .

With the Alco brand, the company is also active in the field of water cannons for mobile and stationary applications.

Since the takeover by Paragon Partners in 2010, the company has been trading under the name AWG Fittings GmbH. In August 2011 AWG took over the business activities of Lancier Hydraulik GmbH and thus expanded its product range to include products in the area of technical assistance . This includes various hydraulic rescue equipment. These are sold under the LANCIER brand.

At the beginning of 2013 AWG relocated the headquarters and the entire production from Giengen to Ballendorf. The subsidiary Albach was integrated into AWG and relocated from the previous location in Frankfurt-Höchst to Ballendorf. In 2016 the company was sold to the US-American IDEX Corporation.
