St-Julien-Ste-Basilisse is a Roman Catholic parish church in Magrie in the Aude department in France .

history

The parish church, consecrated to Saints Julian and Basilissa , probably goes back to a building from the 11th century. The first written mention of Magries was in 1036, that of the church only in 1162. In 1174 the church was given to the Order of St. John by Pons d'Arce , Archbishop of Narbonne .

Today's church was built in its defensive form around 1300. The single nave nave is followed by a choir room that has just been closed. A bell gable typical of the region rises above the completely undivided west wall. The battlements above the east wall of the choir were probably not built up until the 19th century. The interior decoration was commissioned by the order's committees, including three marble altars. The altarpiece of the main altar was made in 1680. During the French Revolution, the order had to give up the church. As part of several renovations in the 19th century, the baptistery and sacristy were added, and the neo-Gothic cross-ribbed vaults were added.
