The St-Pierre Chapel. In the background the old lighthouse

St-Pierre is a Roman Catholic chapel in Penmarch in Brittany . The chapel and the mighty fortified tower have been classified as Monument historique since 1965 .

history

The late Gothic chapel was built on an older defensive tower at the beginning of the 16th century. Around 1792 it was shortened by half to make room for the construction of the old lighthouse, which was later replaced in its function by the Phare d'Eckmühl . The chapel has a large tracery window in its east wall , which was apparently reinstalled here when it was shortened.
