building

The St. George's Church in Stolp at that time was a building erected in 1492, which was one of almost 70 St. George / St. Jürgen Hospital Churches built in Pomerania in the 14th and 15th centuries . Georgenhospitäler were downright leper houses for people who suffered from the infectious disease introduced in the early 13th century. Like the Gertraudenkapelle in Koszalin (Köslin) , the Stolper Georgskapelle was built in an octagonal construction, unlike the other two Pomeranian churches, namely the St. Gertrud Church in Darłowo (Rügenwalde) and the Gertrudenkapelle in Wolgast , which were built in twelve corners .

Originally, the George Chapel was built on the road leading to Stettin , outside the city walls and without a cemetery. After the introduction of the Reformation , the chapel was unused from 1525 to 1610. In 1610, the first Protestant service was celebrated in it. After a fire in 1681, it was rebuilt in 1689. At that time, the baroque spire with a lantern , which is still preserved today, was put on.

In 1913 the chapel was demolished due to road construction work and rebuilt in its current location ( called Lämmerhügel at the time ). In the white plastered chapel there is now an art gallery of the artists' club at the cultural center in Słupsk.
