The Evangelical Lutheran St. John's Church is a church in the Hanover district of Misburg-Nord . It and the Trinity Church , built in 1963, are the church buildings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Misburg parish.

Church building

The St. Johannis Church was built by Karl Mohrmann in the years 1902–1904. Misburg had been an independent parish since 1894. The three-aisled church in the style of the north German brick Gothic replaced a chapel, which was in use as a place of worship from 1892, and holds 700 people.

The west facade has three portals, the tower of the church is on the side of the building. The building material is red bricks, which alternate with the plastered blind arches . The vaults are supported by a pillar, at the foot of which the architect and his assistant have represented themselves with figures. The altar, font and pulpit are made of oak and have been preserved in their original form. In the choir there are round windows that were designed by Ferdinand Horrmeyer from Hanover after the Second World War . They represent scenes from the Gospels. From 1987 the church was renovated outside and inside. In 1992 a glass wall was installed that separates the north nave. In 1994 the then regional superintendent of Hanover Hartmut Badenhop consecrated the church again.

Bells

During the Second World War, the bells of St. John's Church were also drawn in and melted down in order to cast cannons from the material. The parish was only allowed to keep one bronze bell. In 1948 the church received two new bells that were cast from iron in 1946. Since 2007, the safety of structural engineers has been checked every quarter because of the wear and tear of these steel bells. The parish is procuring two new bronze bells and replacing the previous steel bell cage on which the bells hang with a wooden one. With a total cost of 105,000 euros, 20,000 euros should be collected. On September 2, 2016, two new bells were cast in the bell foundry Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock in Gescher .

Renovation in the 21st century

After the cracks in the wall were found in 2008, an investigation by an engineering office revealed that the steel girders in the area of the foundations had corroded and lost more than half of their load-bearing capacity, the stone floor above the cellar vault was not stable and threatened to collapse, as well as other construction-related defects . Initial assessments assumed the weight of the tower attached to the church building as the cause of the problems. After three years of construction, the renovated church was reopened in Advent 2017 with a solemn service.
