Ferdy Horrmeyer
Ferdy Horrmeyer (born March 8, 1890 in Hanover , † 1978 in Bremen ) was a German painter and graphic artist .
Life
Ferdinand Horrmeyer studied after school and painting apprenticeship in Hanover at the local arts and crafts school . He was a student of the church painter Friedrich Koch .
Towards the end of the First World War and in the young Weimar Republic , Horrmeyer created posters for war bonds , calls for elections for the SPD for the Reichstag elections or to advertise the avant-garde art magazine Das Hohe Ufer . Most of the prints were produced by Molling & Co. in Hanover, as the Imperial War Museum at Europeana .eu has proven.
In 1928 Horrmeyer lived in Berlin . He was a member of the German Werkbund .
Up until the Second World War , Horrmeyer designed, in addition to some paintings and church paintings, above all advertising posters for cigarette manufacturers and other companies. 1940–1945 he taught as a professor at the National Socialist -oriented Nordic Art College in Bremen. After the war he worked almost exclusively as a church painter and also designed picture windows . He has received numerous awards for his work.
