St. Marien village church

The St. Marien Church is a village church in the Aschersleben district of Drohndorf . The Protestant church Drohndorf belongs to the parish Sandersleben within the Evangelical Church of Anhalt .

Building

In the place of today's church stood a previous building, which was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years War and then rebuilt. The tower was built on the east side of the church above the choir. This was renovated in 2010; the clockwork was also restored and exhibited in the tower. Remarkably, the entrance is on the north side of the church. There are numerous wall paintings inside. In 2003 the previously unnamed church was named St. Mary's Church.

Bells

Old bell of St. Mary's Church from the 11th-12th centuries century

In the church tower there are a total of four bells , including a very old beehive bell , dated 1098, although experts suspect its origin a little later at the beginning of the 12th century. The approximately 100 kg heavy bronze bell is one of the oldest surviving church bells in all of Germany and is probably the oldest bell still struck in northern Germany . The big bronze bell, the so-called Marienglocke, is just as historical. It probably comes from the former Mehringen monastery and is dated to the 13th century. It is damaged and not struck. Two steel bells ring the church.
