Lukáš BABAC (* 20th March 1985 in Piestany ) is a Slovak lightweight - rowers .

Athletic career

Lukáš Babač started rowing in 1997. At the Junior World Championships in 2003, he finished fourth in the single . The following year he took part with Ľuboš Podstupka in the lightweight double sculls at the Olympic Games in Athens and finished eleventh. In 2005 Babač won the silver medal in the lightweight single at the U23 World Championships , the following year he finished sixth. Babač also competed at the World Championships in 2006 and came in 14th. 2007 Babač tried to qualify together with Marcos Sloboda in the lightweight double scull for the 2008 Olympic Games, but reaching the D final at the 2007 World Championships was not enough. Instead, Babač returned to the lightweight single in 2008 and finished eighth at the 2008 World Championships . At the European Championships in 2008 Babač won the silver medal in the one with no weight limit.

In 2009 he first competed in the lightweight single and finished 13th at the world championships . At the European Championships in 2009 he started again in the one with no weight limit and finished fourth. In 2010 he won bronze in the lightweight single at the European Championships . At the 2010 World Championships , Lukáš Babač competed in both single boat classes, without weight restrictions he reached the C final, while he received the silver medal behind Italian Marcello Miani in the lightweight single . In the pre-Olympic year 2011 Babač competed consistently in the difficult single, 19th place at the World Championships and eleventh place at the European Championships 2011 were not enough for the Olympic qualification. After a qualification attempt in the difficult double sculls failed, he rowed again in the lightweight single at the 2012 World Championships , but only came in tenth here. At the end of the 2012 season, he and Richard Vanco finished eighth in the lightweight double scull at the European Championships .

With a 19th place at the European Championships in 2013 , Vanco and Babač started the post-Olympic year and ended their joint careers. At the 2014 World Championships , Babač rowed again in the lightweight single and reached ninth place. In 2015 he won silver at the European Championships , the following year he won the European Championships in 2016 . He then tried to qualify for the men's one in the open weight class at the 2016 Olympic Games, but failed in fifth place in the semifinals. At the world championships of the non-Olympic boat classes, he then took bronze in the easy single.
