St. Michael Church

The St. Michael Church is a Catholic church in the Blumenau settlement belonging to the Mannheim district of Sandhofen . It was built between 1970 and 1971 according to plans by Heinz Heß .

The Blumenau settlement was built in the 1930s. The Catholics initially belonged to the Waldhöfer St. Franziskus community . From 1938 the newly built Protestant community center in Schönau could be used for church services, which involved a change to the Sandhöfer St. Bartholomew Parish . After the Second World War , the Gut-Hirten-Kirche was built in Schönau in 1953 and an independent parish was established there in 1962, responsible for Schönau and Blumenau. The Protestant Jonakirche in Blumenau had already been completed the year before and could also be used for Catholic services.

After Blumenau continued to grow in the 1960s, the decision was made to build its own branch church. The church , which is under the patronage of Archangel Michael , was built between 1970 and 1971 according to the plans of Heinz Heß . On November 28, it was consecrated and a year later on November 5 of Oskar Saier consecrated . In 2003 the parishes of St. Michael, Good Shepherd and St. Bartholomäus were merged to form the pastoral care unit Sandhofen-Schönau.

The St. Michael Church is located in the center of Blumenau. The building includes a large community hall.
