St. Agatha is a Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Agatha in the village of Bleiwasher , which belongs to the town of Bad Wünnenberg .

history

At the beginning of the 18th century, the residents of lead washing decided to build a church in their place. The permission to build was granted by Paderborn Bishop Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht . The construction of the church building began in 1708 and the church was completed just one year later. For Libori in 1710 the first High Mass was celebrated. It was consecrated a year later by the then Vicar General Jodokus Frihoff.

Towards the end of the 19th century, due to a lack of space, it was decided to build a new church building. For reasons of cost, an initially planned three-aisled building was not approved by the Vicariate General and the royal government from Minden. Nevertheless, in 1897 the approximately 200-year-old church in the village was demolished. In April 1897 the foundation stone was laid for a new single-nave church, the shell of which cost 33,000 marks. In 1901, Auxiliary Bishop Augustinus Gockel consecrated the building, which had been completed by then.
