The parish church of St. Benedikt in Gauting (between Munich and Starnberg ), located in the Upper Bavarian Würmtal , is a new building from 1934/35 while retaining the late medieval church tower.

History and description

The church and parish in Gauting were mentioned for the first time in 1315. At the end of the 15th century the church was renovated in the late Gothic style. In the first third of the 20th century, Gauting's population grew rapidly, so that the old church quickly became too small. The architect Georg Buchner built a large, simple wall pillar church with a retracted choir that ends in a straight line. The saddle roof tower of the previous building was included.

The interior of the church has a flat wooden strip ceiling and mostly unadorned nave walls. Painted glass window parts of the Gothic building, which were donated by the lords of the castle in Fussberg around 1500 , were integrated into individual windows . On the front corners of the nave and in the choir there are wall frescoes (before 1940) made by the Gautingen painter Hans Schellinger .
