The St. George 's Protestant village church of Untergreißlau , a district of Weissenfels in Burgenlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the parish Weissenfels-southeast in the church district Merseburg Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

St. George was built in the 12th century as a Romanesque choir tower church. On the north side of the tower there is a sacristy extension with a ruler's lodge on the upper floor, the gable of which shows late Gothic brick panels that were later simplified. The parish of Untergreißlau was incorporated into the Weissenfelser Klarissenkloster at the beginning of the 14th century by Bishop Ulrich von Naumburg. After the Reformation, the church passed into sovereign patronage. The bell storey of the choir tower dates from the 19th century. Two of the six medieval bronze bells come from the church of the Langendorf monastery .
