St. Hedwig (Essen-Altenessen)
The St. Hedwig Church is a Roman Catholic church building in the Altenessen district of Essen .
history
The St. Hedwig Church was built from 1931 to 1932. It is a brick hall building with a raised, hipped roof-covered middle section and a set rectangular choir. On the long sides there are narrow, round-arched windows by the artist Jochem Poensgen from 1967 and 1969, on one side with a stone frame, on the other side with brick. In the base there are further three-part windows with original grilles. The sacristy was built at right angles to the church, adjoining it is the tower with an arched entrance and arched sound openings at the top. This is followed by a two-story, gable-free rectory. It was also built in brick in 1935. A modern building is attached to the rear gable side.
The parish church of St. Hedwig belongs to the parish of St. Johann Baptist.
The architect was Wilhelm Schneider. The church was placed under monument protection on September 13, 1990 .
Bells
The church originally had two bells from the Otto bell foundry from Hemelingen , but they were lost in the Second World War . In 1957 it received a new bell.
