St James's Park is a London Underground tunnel station in the City of Westminster . It is located in the Travelcard tariff zone 1 on Broadway, about 100 meters south of St. James's Park and close to Home Office and New Scotland Yard . The Circle Line and District Line trains stop at both side platforms . In 2014, 15.73 million passengers used the station. It is integrated in 55 Broadway , the headquarters of London Underground (formerly London Transport ).

The station was opened on December 24, 1868 by the Metropolitan District Railway (predecessor of the District Line), as part of the first section between South Kensington and Westminster . The original station building was rebuilt after 1900 - in connection with the construction of the Electric Railway House , the headquarters of the Underground Electric Railways Company of London (UERL). Between 1926 and 1929, the high-rise 55 Broadway , the new headquarters of the UERL , was built above the station . The old station building was demolished.

The design of the skyscraper in Art Deco style comes from Charles Holden , the then "house architect" of the London Underground. There is a shopping arcade on the ground floor, while London Underground administration was located on the floors above. The original enamel elements and wooden benches have been preserved on the platform level . The walls of the counter hall on the ground floor of the listed high-rise are clad in marble.
