Kreuztal freight yard
The marshalling yard Kreuztal freight yard of DB Netz has a mountain track and 19 direction tracks up to 800 m in length. The departing rail freight wagons or groups of wagons are braked behind the hill by two valley brakes. The target braking in the direction tracks is carried out by brake blocks , which bring the cars to a stop there.
The Kreuztal Gbf train station has a manual brake test system . There is also the option of weighing railway wagons on static and dynamic rail scales . A container terminal abandoned by DB Cargo is connected to the Kreuztal train station . It was bought by the Siegen-Wittgenstein district railway and is now operated by them. This opened the new "Container Terminal South Westphalia" on September 14, 2018. Furthermore, a general cargo reloading hall, which is no longer required for rail traffic, is connected to the marshalling yard.
The marshalling yard is officially classified in the second train formation yard category of the DB as a node yard .
