The St. James Theater

The New York St. James Theater is located in 246 West 44th Street at Broadway . It is a member of the Theatrical Syndicate . It was opened in 1927, still under the name The Erlanger . After the death of the founder Upon Erlanger in the 1930s, the Astor family took over the theater. They eventually renamed it the St. James Theater .

In 1941 the theater was taken over by The Shubert Organization . In 1957, the production company had to the theater because of the competition law of William L. McKnight exits. McKnight had the theater renovated and reopened in 1958. 1970 McKnight gave the St. James Theater to the current owners, his daughter Virginia and her husband James H. Binger.

In May and April 2013, director Alejandro González Iñárritu took 30 days of shooting to shoot his film Birdman, or (The Unexpected Power of Cluelessness) at the St. James Theater . The film is about the production of a Broadway play. The stage of the theater, the reception and the operational area of the stage were mainly used for the shooting .
