history

The residents of Uentrop belonged to the parish of the St. Laurentius Church in Arnsberg. The way to the church took almost an hour, so that since 1850 there was a desire for an own place of worship. The church council turned to the Vicariate General in Paderborn with a corresponding request. In 1857 a chapel building association was founded in Uentrop and in the same year construction of the chapel began. The work was carried out by the Arnsberg building contractor Löhr. The chapel was consecrated in 1858.

In the years 1924 to 1927 the chapel was extended to the west by three window axes with a vestibule and a sacristy. In 1958, the original vaulting of the choir was removed.

Building description

Before the extension, the nave of the rather small, unplastered hall building made of rubble stones without wall structures had only two lancet windows . The choir is quite elaborately designed. The retracted choir has a 7/10 ending, which is unusual in the region. All seven sides of the choir have narrow lancet windows. There is a ridge turret over the eastern end of the roof of the nave.
