St. Lambertus (Mettmann)
St. Lambertus is a Catholic church in Mettmann , North Rhine-Westphalia .
Building
The church was built from 1881 and consecrated in 1883. From the previous building erected in the 12th century, a large Romanesque church, the tower with four bells and the baptismal font still exist today . After the Second World War , the church was permanently changed in the course of a renovation in 1956. The neo-Gothic furnishings were removed and the neo-Gothic paintwork that was still partially painted was painted over.
organ
The organ goes back to an instrument that was built in 1912 by the "Orgelbau-Anstalt" G. Stahlhut in Aachen. The German-Romantic disposition and fundamentally tuned instrument had 28 registers (1,760 pipes) on two manuals and pedal and pneumatic action.
From 1968 to 1971 the instrument was extensively revised by the master organ builder Lotar Hintz (Heusweiler / Saar) and the sound was changed significantly. The organ received a new electric mobile console and electric action. Some of the registers have been converted to "more modern" timbres, the disposition has been supplemented with new, bright registers, other registers have been removed. After the instrument was already prone to failure in the 1980s, it was decided to purchase a new one in 1992. In 1997, the Freiburg organ builder Hartwig Späth was commissioned with the restoration and expansion of the organ, while maintaining the concept of the original instrument. A three-manual organ with a total of 43 registers was planned, but initially only 29 registers on 2 manuals and pedal were implemented, although the console was already being prepared for expansion. In 2004 more voices were added and in 2011 a swellable echo work was added. Today the slider chest instrument has 43 stops on three manual works and a pedal. The playing actions are mechanical. The instrument does not have a closed housing, rather the vault serves as a boundary.
