St. Margareta is a Catholic parish church in Cologne - Libur , which has been a listed building since January 19, 1983 (No. 1290).

history

Libur, which previously belonged to the parish of Niederkassel , only became an independent parish in 1849. As a successor to a chapel built in 1582 and consecrated to St. Margaret , today's parish church was built from 1909 to 1911. The construction, which was carried out with the help of foundations from wealthy farmers and the pastor Hubert Huthmacher (born November 25, 1862 in Rheinbach, † February 25, 1915 in Libur), has been based on plans by Huthmacher. The adjacent street was named after him.

architecture

The parish church is a neo-Gothic three- aisled brick basilica with a tower added to the northwest. Its original interior, the stone altars , the pulpit , the organ loft , the windows and the sculptures are well preserved. The original painting was restored in 1981. Next to the church is the old cemetery. Gravestones dating back to 1650 can be seen there.

St. Margareta is part of the Porz cultural path .

Bells

In 1909, the Otto bell foundry from Hemelingen / Bremen cast a three-part bronze bell ring. Of these bells, only the smallest bell survived the bell annihilation of the two world wars. After the Second World War, Otto delivered new bells in 1949 and 1959. Today in St. Margareta there is a three-part Otto chime, which sounds on g '- b' - c ''. The bells have the following diameters: 1128 m, 858 mm, 777 mm and the following weights: 650 kg, 410 kg, 296 kg.
