St. Mary's Conception

The Church of St. Mary's Conception is a Roman Catholic church building in the Essen district of Holsterhausen . It was built from 1895 to 1897.

history

The architect was Josef Seché . During the Second World War in April 1944, the church building was destroyed except for the outer walls. After the war, the congregation set up an emergency church behind the church building on Barthel-Bruyn-Straße, which is popularly known as Holstehauser Dom .

1951 to 1952 the church was rebuilt by the architect Willy Weyres and Schneider. This was done with a few changes; Among other things, the spire was made more compact and the high central window in the chancel was replaced by a triptych from the life of Mary.

Between 1988 and 1993 the church was extensively restored.

In 2006 the parish of St. Mary's Conception merged with the parish of St. Stephanus . Today St. Mary's Conception belongs to the parish of St. Antonius.

Bells

As an old accounting and cash book of the Otto bell foundry from Hemelingen / Bremen shows, in the year the church was completed for St. Mary's Conception, it delivered four bronze bells, three chime bells and a ridge bell. The three ringing bells survived the annihilation of bells in both world wars. As an inspection in August 2011 showed, the three bell bells still hang in the bell chamber of the church tower today.
