St. Maria is the Catholic church in Pattensen , named after Maria (mother of Jesus) . It is located in the streets north of the historic city center (Ostlandplatz 2), which have been built since 1950, and their names indicate the origin of many of their residents from the former German eastern regions.

St. Mary's Church was in 1952/53 to plans by Josef Fehlig built as a simple hall with slightly elevated chancel and a tower-like cross bar above the portal front, and by Bishop on March 15, 1953 Joseph Godehard making consecrated . Of the furnishings, the Madonna and Pietà as well as the free-standing tabernacle are worth mentioning.

In the early and high Middle Ages, Pattensen had transport and strategic importance and was the seat of an archdeaconate of the diocese of Minden . The Archdeaconate Church of St. Luke has been Lutheran since the Reformation .

The city's development had stagnated since the late Middle Ages. Industrialization also brought only slight growth.

Only after the Second World War did the influx of displaced people cause a leap in population growth. At times over thirty percent of Pattensen's residents were displaced from the East - many of them Catholics.

On July 1, 1957, Pattensen became an independent parish, and on October 1, 1970 it was elevated to a parish. Since November 1st, 2006 the church belongs to the parish of St. Augustinus in Hanover-Oberricklingen . Today, 1650 Catholics belong to the parish of St. Maria within the entire parish of St. Augustine.
