St. Mary Helper of Christians

St. Maria Helferin der Christians is a neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church building in Dornbusch , Viersen , which today belongs to the Community of Communities (GdG) St. Clemens in Süchteln .

history

The church of St. Maria Helferin der Christians in Dornbusch is the parish church of the surrounding farmers' communities Dornbusch, Kölsum and Rennekoven. Because of the great distance from the loosely populated rural area to the existing parish churches in Süchteln, Dülken or Lobberich, it was built in 1855–58, initially as a chapel, based on a design by the Cologne master builder Vincenz Statz .

On March 20, 1854, Pastor Ringelhoven from the parish of St. Clemens (Süchteln) applied to the General Vicariate of Cologne to build his own chapel in Dornbusch because of the remote location of the Honschaft. The building site was chosen outside of the actual honors in order to be closer to the other honors Rennekoven and Kölsum intended for care. The foundation stone was laid on November 21, 1855, and the new chapel was designated on December 1, 1857. After its final completion, Hermann Josef Koch was appointed as the first rector on October 12, 1858.

On October 30, 1889 the chapel congregation was founded; the consecration of the chapel took place on August 22, 1892. It was structurally expanded to a church in 1903-09. For this purpose, a tower with the adjoining main nave yoke is listed (Johannes Feldges, Lobberich). The church painter Heinrich Brey from Geldern painted the new church interior in 1912 (with Heinrich Froitzheim), and a heater was installed in 1916. On October 6, 1918, Dornbusch finally achieved the desired parish elevation. The church was fundamentally repaired from 1968 to 1973 (construction management: Lorenz Henenkes) and 1987/88 (tower renovation; architect: Bolten).

Bells

In 1919 and 1948, the Otto bell foundry in Bremen-Hemelingen cast  a total of three bronze bells for the church in Dornbusch. This also includes the bell from 1919, which survived both world wars. The bells from 1948 have the chimes: e ′ and g ′. The bells have the following diameters: 1259 mm and 1059 mm. Together they weigh 1850 kg.
