Building history

The municipality of Limbach-Oberfrohna is now part of the Chemnitz deanery . After a Catholic church service took place in the city of Limbach for the first time since the Reformation in 1906 , at that time in the Hotel Mannheim, the Palmgarten restaurant was acquired by Pastor Schewtschik in 1920 and from then on served as the church's church. In 1922 the parish outpost of Chemnitz and in 1923 finally an independent parish. In 1957, a new building for the growing community was discussed, but ultimately failed because of the political situation within what was then the GDR. In 1992 a church building association was founded with the aim of building a new church in the area of ​​Limbach-Oberfrohna. The laying of the foundation stone was celebrated on August 17, 1996, and the consecration of the church on May 14, 1997 by Bishop Joachim Reinelt. Since May 10, 2020 the church has been the seat of the newly founded parish of Saint Teresia Benedicta of the Cross - Edith Stein.
