St. Mary's Island is a small, rocky tidal island of England on the coast of Tyne and Wear .
The island is dominated by St. Mary's Lighthouse and is accessible from Curry's Point on the mainland via a low dam, which is flooded at high tide . Before the dam was built, access to the island was via stepping stones.
