St. Michael in Eitlbrunn is the parish church of the Catholic parish Eitlbrunn, a district of Regenstauf . The church is located in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Bavaria (Kallmünzer Strasse 30).

history

Eitlbrunn had a Sankt Jacobs Church (20 x 7.5 m) with an onion dome since the 14th century . In 1957 the tower of the church was demolished up to the middle floor due to dilapidation and provided with an emergency roof. In 1958 it was decided to build a new and more spacious church. The 600-year-old church was then torn down to the foundations, nothing can be seen of it today.

The very simple and completely newly built St. Michael Chorturmkirche was built in 1959 not far from the former St. Jacobus Church of Eitlbrunn under the parish curator Georg Schmid. The architect was Karl Albert Wirthensohn. The inauguration was carried out on October 11, 1959 by Archbishop Michael Buchberger , at the same time there was a change of patronage

Design

The ceiling fresco (11 x 30 m) was designed by the Regensburg painter Erwin Schöppl . It depicts the world's homage to Mary, with the Holy Trinity floating above her . In the margins, various topics are presented that are closely related to the main theme (e.g. apparition of the Madonna of Lourdes , the missionary work of America and Africa and Asia, the fall of the angel of Lucifer). Much of the interior was taken over from the previous church; these include the high altar with a new depiction of St. Michael and the two side altars (the right one now has a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the left one contains a figure of Mary, presumably by Johann Valentin Bittner).

A round window is located above the organ loft, which depicts the eye of God enclosed by a halo. The arched windows below are depictions of Saints Notburga, George and Elisabeth. Under the gallery is the former altarpiece, which shows St. Jacobus, the former patron saint of the place (made around 1700).

The four church bells also come from the previous church.

Renovations

The church tower was renovated at the end of the 20th century, the outdoor facilities (including the plaster of the church building, which is now in muted white) were renewed in 2011/2012. The sacristy was fundamentally redesigned in 2013.
