St. Paul (Bocholt)
The St. Paul Church is a Catholic church on Breslauer Straße in the east of Bocholt .
It is a church location of the parish Liebfrauen with the parish church Liebfrauenkirche (Bocholt) .
Building history
The church building was designed by Gottfried Böhm and erected between 1964 and 1966.
In the 1980s and 1990s the church was redesigned and restored. The previously unadorned window surfaces were given colored motifs, four bells were purchased and finally an organ.
Church interior
It is striking that the church interior does not show any parallel lines in the horizontal. The room itself is almost round in shape. The ceiling design is unique: It consists of elongated concrete triangles that resemble a surface that has been folded several times. The ceiling rises from the entrance in the west and reaches its climax above the sanctuary in the east. Due to this construction, the room looks like a kind of cave or grotto that completely absorbs the visitor.
Furnishing
The four church windows extend from the church floor to below the ceiling structure. These are wide window areas. They originally consisted of clear glass, created by an elaborate, recurring structure in an abstract flower pattern. Colored motifs were subsequently incorporated into these window areas, mostly in bright red tones. One window shows a large abstract rose motif , another a large abstract blazing flame . These motifs were created by the artist Hildegard Bienen (Hamminkeln).
organ
The organ comes from the organ building workshop Eisenbarth (Passau) and was completed in 1987. The housing, which accommodates the design of the ceiling surfaces (folding construction), is striking. The purely mechanical instrument has 32 registers on slider drawers . In 2015 two registers were exchanged in the swell plant.
