history

The Silbererzabbau and iron processing industry in St. Salvator was an important economic factor in the region for centuries. An iron hammer mill in St. Salvator can be traced back to 1497. The Gurk diocese has operated a stucco furnace here since at least 1641 , an early variant of a blast furnace . Between 1760 and 1770 this was replaced by a raft furnace , which allowed continuous melting and was in operation until 1869.

Not least for this reason, the coat of arms of the municipality, which was constituted in 1850, was given a motif from local mining history. "A silver blast furnace in a blue shield." Was the official blazon of the municipal coat of arms awarded on April 7, 1961. A fox raft stove in the Mosinz was shown with a stove on a base and a smoke hood.

The political municipality of St. Salvator, which was granted the right to use the designation market municipality in 1930 , expired on January 1, 1973 when it was merged with the larger municipality of Friesach. Since then, St. Salvator has been a cadastral parish as well as a place in the urban parish .
