St. Severin (Völlan)
St. Severin is the parish church of the village of Völlan , a fraction of the market town of Lana in South Tyrol .
history
The parish church is under the patronage of St. Severin von Köln and was first mentioned in a document on January 4, 1295. However, it is believed that the core of the church is much older. The new consecration of the Gothic church building took place on March 22nd, 1433. The church tower also dates from this time. The originally Gothic church building was oriented to the east. The old choir, which is now open via a round arch, was located north of the church tower. It is the only remaining remnant of the former church complex. The current, north-facing nave was built around 1760 and extended in 1957/58.
Furnishing
The outer east wall is decorated with a fresco of St. Christophorus. The frescoes on the north wall are no longer preserved. In the interior there are valuable frescoes from the 15th century. The four-pointed star rib vault dates from the first half of the 15th century. The altars are from the middle of the 19th century and show next to Maria the church patron and St. Martin.
