Sun Is Cycling -

Sun is Cycling is the fourth studio album by the German alternative metal - band Nump . It was released on October 20, 2017 on Timezone Records .

Emergence

At the end of 2013, the band was already working on their first instrumental demo recordings (at that time with the guitarists Kosa and Koch). The constant line-up changes on the second guitar delayed work on the new material and so the other members decided to conceptualize the upcoming album with a four-person line-up. In 2016, however, Dominik Heidinger, who is responsible for the production of the album, surprisingly joined the band as the second guitarist.

The vocal recordings were made by Dominik Heidinger in Sonic Storm Studio in Würzburg . Guest singer Alexandra Goeß-Schmitt can also be heard from Hautnah on the songs Modern Slaves and Sun is Cycling .

background

The name of the album can be traced back to a picture of Thorsten Geschwandtner's daughter. This is entitled The Sun Rides a Bicycle , which the band translates literally into English. However, the title track Sun is Cycling makes use of the ambiguity of cycling and refers to the cyclical sunrise and sunset. The title track also describes the path of the sun spread over a day and how it perceives the evil and malice of humanity.

Several teasers and announcement videos for Sun is Cycling were regularly posted on Nump's official YouTube channel during production .

On September 1, 2017, the self-made music video for Social Cancer was published on Nump's YouTube channel. This video was staged humorously with hand puppets and costumes. The band can only be seen at the end of the video. The location is the Sonic Storm Studio of producer Dominik Heidinger.

This was followed by two lyrics videos for Blood on Their Hands and Cold at Night .

An announcement video for the release of the CD was published in the form of a compilation of unused recordings and behind-the-scenes from the video shoot for Social Cancer .

The album will be released on October 20, 2017 on the Timezone Records label. The predecessor Eruption appeared on this label.

Reviews

Marcus Schleutermann awarded 6.5 points in Rock Hard 367 and wrote: “The result is therefore different: Sometimes the compositions are upgraded by the excursions with surprising tension curves, sometimes they lose themselves in worlds that don't really fit together. What lifts this refreshingly unconventional album in the end, are the great vocals and the equally fat and transparent production. ” Siggy Zielinski scored 10 out of 15 points on the baby blue pages . "All in all, Nump can be credited with music that is mainly oriented towards alternative metal (metal with alternative rock influences) and djent, which massages the ear canals very energetically and, because of its versatility, is hopefully treated appropriately in our webzine."
