St. Stephen and Milltown Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The St. Stephen and Milltown Railway was a railway company in the Canadian province of New Brunswick . It was founded in 1886 with the aim of connecting the city of Milltown to the route of the New Brunswick and Canada Railway . This required the construction of a seven-kilometer-long railway line between the eponymous towns of Saint Stephen and Milltown . The route was only opened in 1895 or 1896. On May 1, 1897, the Canadian Pacific Railway leased the railway company for 99 years and took over the management. Around 1911, the route was extended by the Maine Central Railroad over the St. Croix River to Maine. Today the line is owned by the New Brunswick Southern Railway .
