St. Vincenz and Gangolf Church in Storkau

history

The Romanesque church was built in the 12th century. It is said to have received a letter of indulgence in 1336 and a silver measuring chalice in 1555 and was repaired in 1599. In 1631 it was pillaged by Tilly's soldiers.

In 1701 the church was enlarged; around 1703 a separate pastor was appointed for Storkau. In 1783 the church received a new organ donated by the manor owner Holderieder. In October 1813, the French troops used the church as a horse stable after the Battle of Leipzig . The interior of the church including the organ was destroyed; a silver host box and both chalices were stolen.

Portraits of Melanchthon and Luther were donated to the church on the occasion of the Reformation anniversary in 1817; further beautification actions followed. In 1832 the inauguration of the renovated church took place.

In 1866 a single-manual organ by Friedrich Ladegast was installed in the organ choir on the west side . It has six registers, including a principal 8 ', which is very unusual for such a small organ.

While the organ has remained functional and in good condition, which was documented on a CD, the building itself is partly in need of renovation. The three bells of the church can therefore no longer be rung.

Estate owners are buried in the church; it also contains a monument to the royal Polish and electoral Saxon major von Stahr. This is located on the south side of the church; on the north side it has a gallery .
