The St. Vitus Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Messinghausen , a district of Brilon in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

Originally there was a chapel here from around 1450, which was demolished in 1882 due to its dilapidation . A village church was built nearby in 1881/82. The tower with a square floor plan and Gothic windows is still preserved from this church . After a few decades there was no longer enough space for the larger congregation and so a new tent roof church with a bronze portal was built in its place in 1969 . The nine-sided tent roof is covered in slate. The building stands on a nine-cornered plan; in one corner is the altar area, opposite, the portal wall, the portals of which are encompassed from the outside by a protruding concrete frame. The organ gallery is on the portal wall. The outer walls are divided by four high window strips, the glazing is the work of Franz Pauli. The side walls are separated from the roof by a light band. The interior was designed by the sculptor Theodor Sprenger . The liturgical furnishings, including the dominating tall tabernacle tower, were created by the sculptor Ernst Suberg.
