Life

Born as Sabah Abu Qaws, Sabah Fakhri grew up in a religious Syrian family. As a child, he was inspired by Arab singers such as Ali Darwich , Omar Batch and Mohamed Rajab and dreamed of a career as a musician of traditional Arab music.

Sabah Fakhri studied at the Academy for Arabic Music in Aleppo and later at the Music Academy in Damascus , Syria, where he studied until 1948. His name, Sabah Fakhri, was given to him by his teacher at the time, Fakhri al-Barudi . This convinced Fakhri to stay in Syria and not to travel to Italy . One of Fakhri's first appearances was a screening in the palace of then President Schukri al-Quwatli and Syrian Prime Minister Jamil Mardam Bey .

Soon Fakhri became known in the Arab world for his traditional music and was honored for his work, which was described as' maintaining the popularity of traditional Arabic music . Fakhri is one of the few Arab singers who has given concerts in Europe , Asia , America and Australia . His name was entered in the Guinness Book of Records when he sang continuously for ten hours in Caracas , Venezuela .
